PETER NERO IS 77 TODAY

Pianist and pop conductor Peter Nero recorded his first album in 1961, and won 
a Grammy Award that year for "Best New Artist." Since then, he has received 
another Grammy, garnered ten additional nominations and released 67 a total 
of 67 albums. Nero’s early association with RCA records produced 23 albums in
eight years. His then moved to Columbia Records which resulted in a million selling
single and album… “Summer of ‘42”.

MOVIE RELEASED ON THIS DATE IN 1980

Following a difficult production, when The Empire Strikes Back was released,
it initially received mixed reviews from critics, but has since become one of the
most popular chapters in the Star Wars saga and one of the most highly-rated
films in history. It earned more than $538 million worldwide over the original run
and several re-releases, making it the highest grossing film of 1980. When
adjusted for inflation, it is the 12th highest grossing domestic film in history
as of 2010.

Raymond Burr won two Emmy Awards in 1959 and 1961 for the role of Perry
Mason (above) which he played for nine seasons between 1957 and 1966 on
CBS-TV. His second hit series, Ironside (1957 –1975 on NBC-TV), earned him
six Emmy Award nominations, and two Golden Globe nominations.

James Stewart was a film and stage actor, known for his distinctive voice. Over the course of his career, he starred in many films widely considered classics and was nominated for five Academy Awards, winning one in competition and receiving one Lifetime Achievement award. He was a major MGM contract star. He also had a
noted military career and was a  World War ll and Vietnam veteran, who was
promoted to the rank of Brigader General in the U.S. Air Force Reserve.

MARILYN SANG TO JFK ON THIS DATE IN 1962

of "Happy Birthday" at a party for President President John F. Kennedy. The event was
a fund-raiser at New York’s Madison Square Garden.
