George Robert "Bob" Newhart tearfully holds up his Emmy. The comedian
turned 84 September 5.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Bob Newhart, among TV’s most enduring stars with shows stretching back more than five decades, wept as he finally captured his first Emmy
Award.

Newhart, 84, was honored at Sunday’s creative arts Emmy ceremony for his guest
role last season on "The Big Bang Theory" as Professor Proton, a down-on-his-luck former host of a children’s science show.

"This is my seventh shot at this…I just love this very much," he said, gazing tearfully
at the trophy in his hand as the audience gave him a standing ovation.

A BANANA-A-DAY KEPT THE DOCTOR AWAY!

salustiano Blazquez

GRAND ISLAND, N.Y (AP) – The world’s oldest man, a 112-year-old self-
taught musician, coal miner and gin rummy aficionado from western New
York, has died.

Salustiano Sanchez-Blazquez died Friday at a nursing home in Grand
Island, according to Robert Young, senior gerontology consultant with
Guinness World Records.

Sanchez-Blazquez became the world’s oldest man when Jiroemon Kimura
died June 12 at age 116.

Sanchez-Blazquez had said his longevity was attributed to eating one
banana per day and his daily dose of six Anacin tablets. His daughter
had another theory.

"I think it’s just because he’s an independent, stubborn man," she said.

RENO, Nevada (AP) — A Lake Tahoe resort once owned by Frank Sinatra and frequented by his Rat Pack buddies is about to undergo a major makeover.

The Cal Neva hotel-casino that straddles the California-Nevada line will close for
more than a year beginning Monday to allow for the multimillion-dollar project.

The 219-room, 10-story hotel and 6,000-square-foot casino will be upgraded in
an effort to revive the struggling property, said Robert Radovan, co-owner of
Criswell-Radovan. His Napa Valley, Calif.-based development company acquired
the Cal Neva in April.

"Our goal is to bring it back to its former glory and to make it what it was like in
Sinatra’s day," Radovan told The Associated Press. "It has such great soul and character, and it’s needed this redo for many decades."

The Cal Neva is one of Nevada’s first legal casinos. The present resort was built
in 1937, when a fire destroyed the original lodge that had opened in 1926.
