COMIC STRIP DEBUTED ON THIS DAY IN 1974
Tank McNamara is a daily syndicated comic strip written by Jeff Millar and illustrated
by Bill Hinds. The title character is a local sports television reporter who used to be
a defensive lineman in the National Football League. The strip focuses primarily
on contemporary athletics and related subjects like politics and and social issues.

AIRPORT DEDICATED ON THIS DAY IN 1948
President Harry S. Truman helped dedicate Idlewild Field — the airfield that would become John F. Kennedy International Airport. Idlewild Field was named after the
golf course it replaced. The airport went through several name changes before it
was officially changed to JFK one month after the president was assassinated.
