TODAY IN HISTORY
CARTOON IS 44 YEARS OLD TODAY
The comic strip Doonesbury, well known for its social and political commentary, is
written and penciled by Garry Trudeau, then inked and lettered by his assistant
Don Carlton. It debuted as a daily strip in about two dozen newspapers and was
the first strip from Universal Press Syndicate. A Sunday strip began on March 21,
1971 It is currently syndicated in approximately 1,400 newspapers worldwide.
TODAY IN HISTORY
Patrick Leonard Sajdak is 68 years old today.
In 1968, Sajak joined the U.S. Army, and was sent to Vietnam,
where he served as a disk jockey on Armed Forces Radio. He
also worked as a radio newsman for a Chicago station and
was a weekend substitute weatherman on television.
"Wheel of Fortune" TV (Syndication) hosts Vanna White and Pat Sajak

Secretary-General Trygve Lie and Wallace K. Harrison, Chief Architect,
seal the cornerstone for the present U.N. Headquarters building.
Special open-air General Assembly meeting held on the site of the U.N
Headquarters building in Manhattan, New York. President Harry S.
Truman was the principal speaker.
