Franklin Delano Roosevelt (January 30, 1882 – April 12, 1945)

On January 30, 1882, future President Franklin Delano Roosevelt 
was born.

Roosevelt grew up the only child in an upper middle-class family
in Hyde Park, New York. He graduated from Harvard in 1904 and
later received a degree from Columbia Law School. His early
involvement in politics included a seat in the New York State
Senate and the role of Woodrow Wilson’s assistant secretary
of the Navy during World War I.

live in infamy—the United States of America was
suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and
air forces of the Empire of Japan.”

One of the last public photos (August 1972) of Lyndon
Johnson five months before his death.  

After leaving the White House in 1968, L.B.J. returned to his
beloved home state, Texas, with his wife, Lady Bird Johnson,
and immersed himself in the activity dearest to him: ranching.

On January 22, 1973, former President Lyndon Baines Johnson
died in Johnson City, Texas having suffered a fatal heart attack
in his home at age 64.

After the assassination of John F. Kennedy, Johnson served
as the 36th president of the United States from 1963 to 1969.

The day after British Prime Minister David Lloyd George’s
arrival in Paris, he meets with representatives from the other
Big Four nations—Prime Ministers Georges Clemenceau of
France and Vittorio Orlando of Italy and President Woodrow
Wilson of the United States—at the French Foreign Ministry
on the Quai d’Orsay, for the first of what will be more than
100 meetings.

Farewell Address to the Nation | Ronald Reagan (reaganlibrary.gov)

On this day in 1989, after eight years as president of the United
States, Ronald Reagan gave his farewell address to the American
people. In his speech, President Reagan spoke with particular enthusiasm about the foreign policy achievements of his
administration.

In his speech, Reagan declared that America “rediscovered” its commitment to world freedom in the 1980s. The United States
was “respected again in the world and looked to for leadership.”
