The Mutual Broadcasting System aired "Twenty Questions" for the first time on radio
radio from the Longacre Theater in New York on radio. Listeners sent in subjects
for the panelists to guess in…in 20 questions. The programs initial sponsor was
Ronson Lighters. The popular quiz show moved to television three years later.

BROTHER SHEA IS 103 TODAY!
Grammy Award-winning gospel singer George Beverly "Bev" Shea has often been
described as “America’s beloved Gospel singer” and is considered to be the first
international singing star of the gospel as a result of his solo performances at Billy Graham Crusades along with his recordings. According to the Guinness Book of
Records Shea holds the world record for singing in person to the most people
ever, with an estimated live audience of 220 million people.

WHO WAS THAT MASKED MAN?
The radio version of The Lone Ranger first aired on WXYZ radio in Detroit on Monday, January 30, 1933 and ran till 1955. The title character was played by George Seaton,
Earle Graser, and the most memorable portrayal by Brace Beemer. The popular radio
program moved to television in 1949 and ended in 1957.
QUIZ SHOW DEBUTED ON THIS DAY IN 1940
Beat the Band was a musical quiz show heard on NBC radio from Sunday,
January 28, 1940 to September 6, 1944. Host Garry Moore read music-
related questions submitted by listeners to band members in Ted Weems
Orchestra.
The show was originally sponsored by the General Mills cereal Kix with
Marvin Miller and Tom Shirley as announcers. Among the program’s
vocalists was Perry Como.
Unlike most radio shows of the time, Beat the Band did not always originate
in Chicago; the program was often broadcast on location from places like
Denver, St Louis, and Milwaukee.
The program popularized the show business catch phrase, "Give me a
little traveling music," often uttered by Jackie Gleason.
RADIO SHOW AIRED FOR FIFTEEN YEARS

Easy Aces was one of radio’s most respected comedies that had a fifteen-year run
from 1930 to 1945. It first aired for 15-minutes on KMBC in Kansas City,Missouri and went become a 30-minute network show on CBS radio in March 1932. The show
starred creator and writer, Goodman Ace and his wife Jane.
