Amelia Flies Atlantic in 15 Hrs
Amelia Earhart became the first woman to fly across the Atlantic
Ocean as she completed a flight from Newfoundland to Wales on
this day in 1928. She received the U.S. distinguished flying cross
for the record.

After his time with The Beatles Paul McCartney formed the band Wings and
embarked upon a solo career. He has earned 21 Grammy Awards across his
career.

He met George Harrison on his school bus as a child and he joined John
Lennon
‘s skiffle group The Quarrymen when he was fifteen. After Harrison
joined the band as well, they changed their name to The Beatles.

Singer-songwriter and producer Barry Manilow recorded "I Write
the Songs" and "Mandy". He went to the Julliard School while
working at CBS to help with tuition fees. He also wrote jingles
like that of the State Farm Insurance company.

chart. The recording peaked at No. 17 on the pop top

Helen Hunt co-starred with Paul Reiser in the NBC-TV sitcom Mad
About You
(1992-1999) and appeared in the successful 1997 film
As Good As It Gets and Twister (1996).

Before fame she went to several plays each week as a child and
later practiced ballet and attended  UCLA.


Helen Hunt holds her Academy Award Oscar for
Best Actress in the 1997 film As Good As It Gets.

Robert Dean Stethem (November 17, 1961 – June 15, 1985)

Stethem was a U.S. Navy Seabee who was murdered by Hezbollah terrorists
while aboard flight 847 during the
hijacking.

The Continental Congress in Philadelphia adopted the "Stars and Stripes"
as the national flag of the United States. The Resolution stated "Resolved:
that the flag of the United States be made of thirteen stripes, alternate red
and white; that the union be thirteen stars, white in a blue field, that would
represent a new Constellation."

On May 20, 1916, President Woodrow Wilson officially proclaimed
