On August 19, 1934, Adolf Hitler, already chancellor, is
also elected president of Germany in an unprecedented
consolidation of power in the short history of the republic. 

The Beatles took America by storm during their famous first
visit, wowing the millions who watched them during their
historic television appearances on The Ed Sullivan Show in
February 1964. The Beatles finally returned on August 19,
1964, more than six months after taking the East Coast by
storm.The Fab Four traveled to California to take the stage
at the Cow Palace in San Francisco for opening night of their
first-ever concert tour of North America.

Robert Redford (Charles Robert Redford, Jr.)

One of Hollywood‘s biggest superstars, Redford officially
announced his retirement from acting in August of 2018.

Redford is the founder of the Sundance Film Festival which
helps hundreds of young filmmakers find a market for their
movies.

1969

A dramatic battle in the Tennessee House of Representatives
ended with the state ratifying the 19th Amendment to the
United States Constitution on August 18, 1920. After decades
of struggle and protest by suffragettes across the country,
the decisive vote is cast by a 24-year-old representative who
reputedly changed his vote after receiving a note from his
mother.
