Burt F. Bacharach is a pianist, composer and music producer. He is known
for his popular hit songs and compositions from the mid-1950s through the
1980s, with lyrics written by Hal David. Many of their hits were produced
specifically for, and performed by, Dionne Warwick.
Released in April of 1964, "Walk on By" became a landmark single,
reaching number six on the Billboard Hot 100 and number one hit
Cashbox’s R&B chart.
Florence Nightingale was a celebrated English nurse and writer. She came to
prominence for her pioneering work in nursing during the Crimean or Russian
War, where she tended to wounded soldiers. She was dubbed "The Lady with
the Lamp"after her habit of making rounds at night. Nightingale laid the foundation
for the nursing profession with the establishment of a school for nursing in 1860 at St Thomas Hospital in London. It was the first secular nursing school in the world. An international Nurses Day is celebrated annually around the world on her birthday. On
August 13, 1910, at the age of 90, Florence Nightingale died peacefully in her sleep.
Race car driver A.J. Foyt (seated) scored his first professional victory, in a U.S. Automobile Club (USAC) midget car race in Kansas City, Missouri. He was 22
years old.
A. J. Foyt has been named the pace-car driver for the 2011 Indianapolis 500
Kim Victoria Fields is and actress and television director. She is best
known for her role as Tootie Ramsey on the NBC sitcom The Facts
of Life (1979 – 1988).
