Mitzi Gaynor well known actress, singer and dancer. Her biggest screen role 
role was that of Ensign Nellie Forbush in Rogers and Hammerstein’s South 
Pacific
(1958), one of the most successful musicals of all time. She was
was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for best actress.

KODAK NAME REGISTERED ON THIS DAY IN 1888

On September 4, 1888, inventor George Eastman registered the trademark
Kodak and the first model of the Kodak camera (below) soon appeared. It
took round pictures 2½ inches in diameter, was of the fixed focus type and
carried a roll of film sufficient for 100 exposures.

THE NUMBER ONE HIT ON THIS DAY IN 1965

Help!" was both the title song for the 1965 film and its soundtrack album
(above). The single released from the album went to number one for three
weeks in both the United States and the United Kingdom. In2004, “Help!”
was listed at the number 29 spot on Rolling Stone’s “The 500 Greatest
Songs of All Time”.

IT WON’T BE THE SAME WITHOUT HIM!

MDA Chairman of the Board R. Rodney Howell issued a statement on
August 3, saying that Jerry Lewis “will not be appearing on the telethon”
and “we will not be replacing him as MDA national chairman.” The 85 
year old Lewis had announced in May that he was retiring as host of
the show, which he has done since 1966. Lewis also had said  that he
planned to make his final appearance on this year’s telethon which is 
scheduled for this evening. The nonprofit agency made no explanation
for the moves.
