Keanu Charles Reeves is a Canadian actor who is probably best known for
his roles in Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure (1989), Speed (1994), Point Break
(1991), and the 1999 groundbreaking science fiction action film The Matrix. In
addition to his film roles, Reeves has also performed in theatre. On January 31,
2005, Reeves received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

NUMBER ONE ON THIS DAY IN 1972
"Alone Again (Naturally)" by Irish singer-songwriter Gilbert O’Sullivan, spent
a total of six weeks, non-consecutively, at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles
chart and the Easy Listening chart. In Casey Kasem’s American ‘Top 40 of the
1970s’, "Alone Again (Naturally)" ranked as the fifth most-popular song of the
decade. Debby Boone’s “You Light Up My Life” was #1.

NUMBER ONE ON THIS DAY IN 1958
“Nel blu dipinto di blu” (“In the blue, painted blue”), popularly known as
“Volare” is Domenico Modugno’s signature song. It became the first
Grammy winner for the Grammy Award for Song of the Year in 1958. It
is the only foreign-language record to achieve the honor. The song spent
five non-consecutive weeks atop the Hot 100 and was Billboard’s number-
one single for the year. It was one of three one-hit wonders to become
single of the year in the history of the Hot 100.
FIRST FEMALE OPERATOR ON THIS DAY IN 1878
Emma Mills Nutt (above) became the world’s first female telephone operator in
operator in history when she began working for the Edwin Holmes Telephone
Dispatch Company in Boston, Mass. She was paid a salary of $10 a month
for a 54 hour work week. The first operators for the company were teenage
teenage boys who did not work well with the customers. Emma reportedly
could remember every number in the directory of New England Telephone
Company. Within seven years, all telephone operators in Boston were
women. The trend soon went nationwide.
WORLD WAR II BEGAN ON THIS DATE IN 1939
The global military conflict known as World War II, or the Second World War began
on September 1, 1939, with the invasion of Poland by Germany, and the subsequent declarations of war on Germany by France and most of the British Empire. It officially ended on September 2, 1945.
