Glenn Miller recorded "Make Believe Ballroom Time" for Bluebird, featuring the vocal group The Modernaires for the first time. It soon became the theme song for the radio show Make Believe Ballroom on WNEW, New York, with host Martin Block (below).

JOAN CUSACK ~ 49 TODAY
Joan Mary Cusack is a film, stage and television actress. She has been
nominated twice for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for
her roles in the movies Working Girl (1988) and In & Out (1997) and is
a three-time winner of the American Comedy Award as “Funniest
Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture.” Cusack is a former cast
member of TV show Saturday Night Live in 1985 to 1986. She also
did the voice of Jessie in Toy Story 2 and Toy Story 3. Joan is the
sister of fellow actor, John Cusack.

Apollo 7 (October 11–22, 1968) was the first manned mission in the Apollo space program. The crew was commanded by Walter M. Schirra, with Command Module
Pilot Donn F. Eisele, and Lunar Pilot R. Walter Cunningham.
LONG-RUNNING SHOW BEGAN ON THIS DAY IN 1975
Saturday Night Live (also known simply as SNL) is a late-night NBC television
comedy sketch and variety show that premiered on October 11, 1975. The first
guest host was George Carlin. The show is one of the longest-running network
television programs in the country with over 700 episodes broadcast over the
span of 37 seasons as of 2011. Saturday Night Live has received a number of
awards, including 21 Primetime Emmy Awards, a Peabody Award, and three
Writers Guild of America Awards. In 2000, it was inducted into the National
Association of Broadcasters Hall of Fame. Time magazine listed SNL on its
“100 Best TV Shows of All-Time”. In 2009, it received 13 Emmy nominations
bringing the show to a total of 126, giving it the most Emmy nominations in
television history.
