VALERIE HARPER IS NOW 73
CAUSE OF DEATH CHANGED
LOS ANGELES (AP) – Authorities have changed Natalie Wood’s death
certificate to reflect some of the lingering questions surrounding the
actress’ drowning 30 years ago.
An amended copy of the actress’ death certificate was entered earlier
this month and changes her death from being classified as accidental
to undetermined.
The amended document also notes that how Wood got into the water
was never "clearly established."
Wood, a three-time Oscar nominee, drowned in the waters off Catalina
Island in November 1981. Sheriff’s department investigators renewed
their investigation last year shortly before the 30th anniversary of her
death.
ADDING MACHINE PATENTED ON THIS DAY IN 1888
The patent for the adding machine was received by its inventor, William S.
Burroughs, on this day in 1888. By 1887, Burroughs had manufactured
50 machines. The straight adding and listing machine Burroughs had
invented was the company’s only product; its purchase price, $475. In
1890 first machines were demonstrated in banks in New York and St.
Lewis with some orders being accepted. The first large scale production
was undertaken in 1892. In 1895, sales had climbed to 284 machines.
