ACTOR NICOLAS CAGE IS 49 TODAY!
Nicolas Cage (Nicolas Kim Coppola) won the Academy Award for Best Actor
in 1995 for “Leaving Las Vegas”. His most famous role came in 1996 with
the thriller “The Rock”, which also starred Sean Connery. Before fame,
Cage sold popcorn at a Los Angeles theater after dropping out of high
school at age 17. His uncle is director, Francis Ford Coppola.
POET BORN ON THIS DAY IN 1878
Carl Sandburg (January 6, 1878 – July 22, 1967)
Carl Sandburg was a writer and editor, best known for his poetry. He
received three Pulitzer Prizes: two for his poetry and another for his
biography of Abraham Lincoln. Before fame, Sandburg flunked out
of the West Point military academy after poor grades on math and
grammar exams.
LENTS IN 1910
The Lents neighborhood of Portland was originally the town of Lent, platted
in 1892. It was bounded by SE Foster Rd. and Duke Street between SE 92nd
and 97th Avenues.

Thomas Edwin "Tom" Mix (January 6, 1880 – October 12, 1940)
Mix appeared in 291 films between 1909 and 1935, all but nine of which were
silent movies. He is credited as having helped define the genre for all cowboy
actors who followed.
