“SPAM”…THE FOOD!

Spam ,originally called spiced ham, was first introduced in 1937. The canned
precooked meat product is made by the Hormel Foods Corporation. Spam has
been the brunt of many jokes and urban legends which has made the product
part of pop culture, often called “mystery meat”. In 2007, the seven billionth
can of Spam was sold.

The crowd in front of Municipal Auditorium in Montgomery, Alabama during
the funeral of Hank Williams.


Among those in attendance were Opry stars Roy Acuff, Jimmy Dickens, Carl Smith, Webb Pierce, Bill Monroe, Red Foley, Ray Price, June Carter and
Johnnie and Jack Wright.

The open casket with Hank Williams dressed in one of his white stage suits, 
in his hands there was a small white bible. Standing honor guard were The Drifting Cowboys.

CHARITY FORMED ON THIS DAY IN 1938

President Roosevelt counting dimes with Basil O’Conner,organizer of the
March Of Dimes campaign.

The nonprofit organization March of Dimes Foundation was founded by then-
President Franklin D. Roosevelt to help combat polio. Roosevelt was himself
diagnosed with polio in 1921, and it left him unable to move his legs.

In 1956-57 Elvis Presley helped promote polio vaccinations for the
March of Dimes. He was photographed (above) with the poster girl 
of the organization, Joanne Wilson. Elvis also had his polio shot.

Ray Milland (Alfred Reginald Jones) January 3, 1907–10 March 10, 1986

Milland’s screen career ran from 1929 to 1985. He is best remembered for his
Academy Award–winning portrayal of an alcoholic writer in The Lost Weekend
(1945), He was the first Welsh actor to win an Oscar and gave the shortest
acceptance speech of any Oscar winner. Milland was also the leading man
opposite a corrupt John Wayne in Reap the Wild Wind (1942), and played
the murder-plotting husband in Dial M for Murder (1954),
