Dr. Medicine Company, makers of Aka-Seltzer, introduced the
"Speedy" character in 1951. He was originally conceived by
Creative Director George Pal of the Wade Ad Agency and
designed by illustrator Wally Wood. Originally named Sparky,
the name was changed to Speedy to align with that year’s
promotional theme, "Speedy Relief." He appeared in over
200 TV commercials between 1954 and 1964, voiced by
Dick Beals (shown above).

1949-cadillac-coupe-de-ville-prototype_

The only remaining 1949 Cadillac Coupe de Ville prototype, of four made, will make
automotive history this year with its first public re-appearance in nearly two-thirds of
a century at the 18th annual Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance to be held on the grounds of The Golf Club of Amelia Island, March 8-10.

The car was given as a gift by General Motors to former CEO Charlie Wilson upon
his departure from GM to serve as President Eisenhower’s Secretary of Defense
in 1953. Wilson drove the automobile during his four-years in office.
