MAGAZINE PIONEER HAS DIED AT 74

Judith Glassman Daniels

UNION, Maine (AP) — Judith Glassman, first woman to serve as the
top editor of Life magazine has died at her home in Maine.

Daniels blazed a trail for women in the publishing world. She served
in senior editing positions at The Village Voice, New York magazine,
Time Inc. and Conde Nast over a career that spanned 35 years in
New York. Her husband, Lee Webb, says she died from stomach
cancer on Sunday, September 1st.

Her family is planning an October memorial service.

George Eastman registered the name "Kodak" and patented the first model of his
roll-film camera. The camera took round pictures with a fixed focus lens. It carried
a roll film for 100 exposures.
