GORDON LIGHTFOOT TURNED 75 TODAY
Gordon Meredith Lightfoot, Jr.
Gordon is a Canadian born singer-songwriter who achieved international success
in folk, folk-rock, and country music. He has been credited for helping define the
folk-pop sound of the 1960s and 1970s and is referred to as Canada‘s greatest
songwriter and internationally as a folk-rock legend.
Lightfoot composed the song in 1964, supposedly inspired
by seeing off a friend at the Los Angeles airport.
