SERIES DEBUTED ON THIS DAY IN 1949

The original radio series of “Father Knows Best” starred Robert Young as
Insurance agent Jim Anderson. His wife Margaret was first portrayed by
June Whitley and later by Jean Vander Pyl. The Anderson children were
Betty (Rhonda Williams), Bud (Ted Donaldson), and Kathy was played
by
 (Norma Jean Nillson). The show was sponsored through most of its
run by
General Foods, the series was heard Thursday evenings on
NBC until March 25, 1954. It went to television on May 27, 1954. 

Only Robert Young remained of the radio cast when the series moved to
CBS Television.

(29 August 1923 – 24 August 2014)

Acclaimed actor and Oscar-winning director Richard Attenborough, whose film
career on both sides of the camera spanned 60 years, has died.

The actor’s son, Michael Attenborough told the BBC that his father died Sunday,
after having been in poor health for some time.

In March 2013, in light of his deteriorating health, Attenborough moved into a
nursing home in London.

Television host and announcer Durward Kirby is best remembered
for The Garry Moore Show in the 1950s and Candid Camera, which
he co-hosted with Allen Funt from 1961 through 1966.
