HECK HARPER REACHES OUT TO HIS FANS IN 1960

KGW-TV’s children’s show host Heck Harper went on location for the grand opening of a grocery store in Southeast Portland. This footage was shot by Lea Wikdman.

RECORDED ON THIS DAY IN 1959

The Everly Brothers recorded "Let It Be Me" in New York City. It
was the first time they recorded outside of Nashville and it was
the first time they recorded with strings. The record reached
number seven on the Billboard Hot 100.

CAME CLOSE TO VENUS ON THIS DAY IN 1962

Mariner 2 was a U.S. space probe to Venus and the first robotic space probe
in the NASA Mariner program to conduct a successful planetary encounter. The
spacecraft was launched from Cape Canaveral on August 27, 1962 and passed
as close as 21,607 Miles to Venus.
