JUNE LOCKHART IS 91 TODAY

 


June Lockhart was born in New York City, New York.

Actress who played a mother on the CBS television series Lassie from
1954 to 1973 and Lost in Space from 1965 to 1968 on CBS. She made
her film debut in A Christmas Carol opposite of her actor parents. June
originally started in theater. Lockhart is a two-time Emmy Award nominee
and a Tony Award winner.

HISTORIC HOTEL ~ THEN AND NOW

Ace Hotel Portland (below) is built on the site of the historic Clyde
Hotel. Built in 1912, the Clyde doubled as a station for the Oregon
Electric Streetcar.

SINGLE RELEASED ON THIS DAY IN 1974

The song "Sweet Home Alabama" by the Southern rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd
reached #8 on the charts in 1974 and was the band’s second hit single. The
song was written in reply to "Southern Man" and "Alabama" by Neil Young;
Young is noted by name in the song’s lyrics.
