Stores began to advertise Christmas shopping in 1820, and by the 1840s,
newspapers were creating separate sections for holiday advertisements,
which often featured images of the newly-popular Santa Claus. In 1841,
thousands of children visited a Philadelphia shop to see a life-size Santa
Claus model. It was only a matter of time before stores began to attract
children, and their parents, with the lure of a peek at a “live” Santa Claus.

In 1958 the first domestic passenger jet flight took place in the U.S.
when 111 passengers flew from New York to Miami on a National
Airlines Boeing 707.

Susan Hallock Dey was born in Pekin, Illinois.
Susan Dey played roles on the ABC television series The Partridge
Family (1970-1974) and L.A. Law on NBC (1986-1994). She also
appeared in the 1981 movie Looker. Prior to her acting career, she
spent time working as a model.

On Saturday, December 7, 1907 Christmas seals were
sold for the first time by Emily Bissell of the American
Red Cross in Wilmington, Delaware. She barrowed the
money from friends to print the first 50,000 Seals and
got permission from the Wilmington postmaster to sell
them in lobby of the post office.
