Buddy Holly won a talent contest when he was five years old for singing
"Have You Ever Gone Sailing (Down the River of Memories)." Rolling
Stone ranked him as the thirteenth "Greatest Artist of All Time."
The 8 .5-foot-tall bronze statue of the rock ‘n roll legend in Lubbock,
Texas.

George Roger Waters is 73 years old today.
Roger Waters was a bass player, composer, vocalist, front man and co-founder
of the English rock band, Pink Floyd. The group is known for songs like "Shine
On You Crazy Diamond." He was once the chairman of the Cambridge Youth
Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament at age fifteen. His first solo album was
called The Body. Pink Floyd were inducted into the US Rock and Roll Hall of
Fame in 1996.

Hugh O’Brian (Hugh Charles Krampe)
(April 19, 1925 – September 5, 2016)
O’Brian was known for his starring roles in the ABC western TV
series The Life and Legend of Wyatt Earp (1955–1961) and the
NBC action television series Search (1972–1973). He also had a
minor role in John Wayne‘s last film, The Shootist (1976). O’Brian
died at his home in Beverly Hills, California.
George Robert Newhart was born in Oak Park, Illinois.
Bob Newhart starred in the sitcom The Bob Newhart Show on CBS. He
studied at Loyola Law School but never completed his degree and worked
as an accountant.

Labor Day in the United States is a public holiay celebrated on the first
Monday in September. It honors the American labor movement and the
contributions that workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and
well-being of the country. It is considered the unofficial end of summer.
In 1887, Oregon was the first state of the U.S.to make it an official public
holiday. By the time it became an official federal holiday in 1894, thirty U.S.
states officially celebrated Labor Day.
