Conway Twitty (Harold Lloyd Jenkins) was born in  
Mississippi. (September 1, 1933 – June 5, 1993)

Country superstar Conway Twitty recorded fifty-five singles
that reached #1, including "I Can’t Stop Loving You" and
"Hello Darlin.” He was inducted into both the Country Music
and Rockabilly Halls of Fame. Conway Twitty formed his first
singing group after his family moved to Helena, Arkansas.

He had the opportunity to play baseball professionally with
the Philadelphia Phillies, but was then drafted into the US
Army. He served in the Far East and organized a group
called The Cimmerons to entertain fellow GIs.

Sir George Ivan "Van" Morrison is 71 years old today.

Irish singer-songwriter Van Morrison’s albums Moondance and 
Astral Weeks have received critical acclaim. His father’s huge 
record collection inspired him to pursue music. Many have said
Morrison is a very private person and sometimes refuses to look
at the audience while performing.

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) – John Lennon’s killer will remain behind bars after being
denied parole for the ninth time.

The New York state Board of Parole on Monday announced that it has again
denied parole to Mark David Chapman, who on Dec. 8, 1980, shot and killed
the former Beatle outside his luxury Manhattan apartment.

The 61-year-old Chapman pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and is
serving a sentence of 20-years to life in Wende Correctional Facility in
western New York.
