On May 21, 1927, 25 year old Charles Lindbergh landed in Paris’ Le Bourget Field at 10:22 p.m. local time, completing the first solo, nonstop transatlantic flight. Aboard The Spirit of St. Louis, Lindbergh flew from New York to Paris in a span of 33 ½ hours. He was greeted in Europe by a large crowd of up to 100,000.

Tony Bennett (Anthony Dominick Benedetto) is 91 years old today.
Singer Tony Bennett is known for his renditions of show tunes, jazz, and popular songs like "I Left My Heart in San Francisco" and "Rags to Riches." He dropped out of school to work as a copy boy in order to help support his family. Bennett was a painting and music student at New York’s School of Industrial Art.

Calvin Coolidge was the 30th president of the United States who was mostly remembered for being a man of few words, which earn him the nickname Silent Cal. He was a farmer, school teacher, and local store clerk. Coolidge achieved national recognition for his handling of the Boston Police Strike of 1919. He held a record number of presidential press conferences for the time, totaling 520.
Canadian born singer-songwriter Lightfoot achieved international success in folk, folk-rock, and country music, and has been credited for helping define the folk-pop sound of the 1960s and 1970s. He has been referred to as Canada’s greatest songwriter and internationally as a folk-rock legend. He has won a total of sixteen Juno Awards, among other honors and was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame in 1986.
Dedicated as Portland Columbia Airport when opening in 1940, the airport served 99,000 passengers in its first year. After building longer runways to meet the requirements of larger aircraft and international air service, the airport was renamed Portland International Airport in 1951. By that time, annual passenger counts quadrupled to 400,000. Today PDX serves a record 16 million passengers annually, and offers nonstop routes to 57 domestic and nine international locations.
