Itzhak Perlman is 72 years old today.

Perlman is an Israeli-American violinist, conductor, and pedagogue. Over
the course of his career, he has performed worldwide, and throughout the
United States, in venues that have included a State Dinner at the White
House honoring Queen Elizabeth II, and a Presidential Inauguration, and
he has conducted the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, and the Westchester Philharmonic. In 2015, he was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

On August 31, 1969, the evening before his 46th birthday,
Marciano was a passenger in a fatal small private plane
crash near an airfield outside Newton, Iowa.

The wreckage of the Cessna 172 lies under a large oak tree. Rocky
Marciano along with the pilot and another passenger died in the
crash.

Sir George Ivan Morrison is 72 years old today.

Known as "Van the Man", singer/songwriter Van  Morrison
1950s, Much of his music is structured around soul music
and R&B, such as the popular single "Brown Eyed Girl”.

ring and fined $3 million for biting the ear of opponent Evander
Holyfield.

Night” won him the Academy Award for Best Actor.

Thomas Jeffrey Hanks is 61 years old today.

Legendary actor Tom Hanks won back-to-back Academy Awards for Best Actor
for his roles in Philadelphia in 1993 and Forrest Gump in 1994. He has starred
in many other classics, including Cast Away (2000), The Green Mile (1999) ,
Saving Private Ryan (1998), and Apollo 13 (1995).

He interned at the Great Lakes Theater Festival, where he learned about
theater production, lighting, and stage management.

Six-year-old Elián González returned to Cuba from the U.S. with his father
on this day in 2000. The child had been the center of an international
custody dispute.

Elián González turned 23 on December 6.

Mike Tyson was disqualified for biting Evander Holyfield’s
ear after three rounds of their WBA heavyweight title fight
in Las Vegas, NV on this day in 1997.

Mel Brooks (Melvin Kaminsky) is 91 years old today.

As a teenager, Mel Brooks was taught the drums by the great
Buddy Rich. In 1961, his comedy career took a big leap forward
when he and fellow comic legend Carl Reiner created a comedy
sketch called The 2000 Year Old Man.

In 2000, the American Film Institute released a list of the top 100
comedy films of all-time and Brooks had three films in the top 20:
Blazing Saddles (1974) (#6), The Producers (1968) (#11) and
Young Frankenstein (1974) (#13).

Jack Dempsey, nicknamed "Kid Blackie" and "The Manassa Mauler", was
a professional boxer who competed from 1914 to 1927, and reigned as the 
world heavyweight champion from 1919 to 1926.
