IT WAS 75 YEARS AGO!
Batman made his debut in Detective Comics #27 (May 1939). He
was created by artist Bob Kane and writer Bill Finger. Originally
referred to as "the Bat-Man."
Batman became a popular character soon after his introduction
and gained his own comic book title, Batman, in 1940.

RADIO SHOW BEGAN ON THIS DAY IN 1945
Arthur Godfrey Time was a Monday-Friday show that featured Godfrey’s
monologues, interviews with various stars, music from his own in-house
combo and regular vocalists. Godfrey’s monologues and discussions
were usually unscripted, and went wherever he chose. The program
remained a late morning staple with the Old Read Head on the CBS
Radio Network schedule until 1972.
JOURNALISTIC HISTORY ON THIS DAY IN 1976
Barbra Walters left a long-time position as co-host of NBC’s Today Show to co-
anchor The ABC Evening News with veteran newsman Harry Reasoner. With
that historic move, she became the first female to co-host a nightly network
newscast.
Barbara Walters is set to retire this summer. She will be
85 in September.
