CAPITOL CORNERSTONE LAID ON THIS DAY IN 1793
A groundbreaking ceremony for the United States Capitol building took place
on September 18, 1793. President George Washington, dressed in masonic
attire (above), laid the cornerstone.

FACE DEDICATED ON THIS DAY IN 1937

On October 4, 1927, the carving process began on Mount Rushmore National
Memorial in the solid granite Black Hills of South Dakota.The face of Abraham
Lincoln was dedicated on September 17, 1937. Work on the massive sculpture,
one of the largest ever completed, continued until October 1941.

Stone in Vietnam (Sept. 16, 1967 – late November, 1968)
Oliver Stone was part of the battle at Firebase Burt on the
evening of January 1, 1968. He was wounded twice and
awarded the Bronz Star for combat gallantry. He was also
awarded the Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster.
Oliver Stone is 66 today
