CRISIS ENDED ON THIS DAY IN 1962

The Cuban Missile Crisis, also known as the October Crisis formally ended 
when the Soviet Union removed its missiles and bombers from Cuba and
the U.S.ended its blockade of the island. A series of agreements sharply
reduced U.S.–Soviet tensions during the following years.

FORMER ATTORNEY GENERAL HAS DIED

Janet Wood Reno
(July 21, 1938 – November 7, 2016)

MIAMI (AP) –  Janet Reno, the first woman to serve as U.S. attorney general
and the epicenter of several political storms during the Clinton administration,
has died. She was 78.

According to her goddaughter, Reno died early Monday from complications
of Parkinson’s disease. She spent her final days at home in Miami surrounded
by family and friends.

Janet Reno was unmarried and had no children. She was diagnosed with
Parkinson’s in 1995.

Appointed by Gov. Reubin Askew on Jan. 4, 1978, Janet Reno
served for 15 years as Dade County State Attorney before
becoming the nation’s first woman Attorney General."

FORMER PRESIDENT BORN ON THIS DAY IN 1735

John Adams (October 30, 1735 – July 4, 1826)

Adams was an American lawyer, author, statesman, and diplomat. He served as
the second President of the United States (1797–1801) and was the first Vice
President
(1789–97). His father wanted him to be a minister, but he instead
opted to become a lawyer. He rose to fame as a vehement critic of the Stamp
Act of 1765.
