Singer Glen Campbell‘s battle with Alzheimer’s has progressed to the point where
he is unlikely to ever perform in public again. According to his wife Kim Woolen, “he
can’t even tune a guitar now”. She told reporters at the Open Hearts Foundation’s
4th Annual Gala in Malibu on Saturday, “If I tune one and hand it to him he can still
”play a couple licks here and there, and he finds joy in that.” Glen is now living in a
full-time care facility near the family’s home in Nashville.

THE DIXIE CUP BEGAN ON THIS DAY IN 1912

health kup early ad

Their story starts in 1912 with a Boston inventor named Lawrence Luellen, who
crafted a two-piece cup made out of a blank of paper. He joined the American
Water Supply Company, the brainchild of a Kansas-born Harvard dropout, Hugh
Moore. The two began dispensing individual servings of water for a penny—one
cent for a five-ounce cup from a tall, clumsy porcelain water cooler. Soon they
were the Individual Drinking Cup Company of New York and had renamed their
sole product the Health Kup. The name was changed to “Dixie Cup” in 1919.

LIFESAVING MANEUVER IS IN NEW BOOK

heimlich-now
Henry Judah Heimlich turned 94 February 3

CINCINNATI (AP) — The Cincinnati surgeon who wrote the book on saving
choking victims through his namesake Heimlich maneuver has now penned
a new book: his memoir.

Dr. Henry Heimlich’s views on how the maneuver should be used and on
other innovations he has created or proposed have put him at odds with
some in the health field. But he hopes his recently published memoir will
preserve the technique that has cleared obstructions from windpipes of
choking victims around the world for four decades and made his name
a household word.

"I know the maneuver saves lives, and I want it to be used and remembered,"
the 94-year-old retired chest surgeon told The Associated Press this month.
"I felt I had to have it down in print so the public will have all the correct
information."

TODD CHRISTENSEN

    Todd Jay Christensen (August 3, 1956 – November 13, 2013)

Salt Lake City, Utah (FoxNews) – Todd Christensen, the brawny tight
end whose sure hands helped lead the NFL’s Raiders to two Super
Bowl championships in the 1980s, died of complications following
surgery in a Utah hospital.

Christensen’s son, Toby Christensen, said his father passed away
Wednesday morning at Intermountain Medical Center near his home
in Alpine, Utah.

Christensen was a devout Mormon who didn’t drink, and his family
believes his liver problems started 25 years ago after a "botched"
gall bladder operation, his son told The Associated Press.

The five-time pro-bowler, who amassed 461 receptions and 41
touchdowns in a 12-year career, most of which was spent with the
Oakland and Los Angeles Raiders, had battled liver disease in
recent years, according to the Salt Lake Tribune.

The Oregon native became one of the league’s top pass-catching
tight ends after starring as a 6-foot-2-inch fullback at BYU. He was
drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in 1978, and later traded to the
Raiders.
