PORTLAND’S NEWEST DEPARTMENT STORE!
CAR HASN’T BEEN SHOWN FOR 64 YEARS!
The only remaining 1949 Cadillac Coupe de Ville prototype, of four made, will make
automotive history this year with its first public re-appearance in nearly two-thirds of
a century at the 18th annual Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance to be held on the grounds of The Golf Club of Amelia Island, March 8-10.
The car was given as a gift by General Motors to former CEO Charlie Wilson upon
his departure from GM to serve as President Eisenhower’s Secretary of Defense
in 1953. Wilson drove the automobile during his four-years in office.

LENTS IN 1910
The Lents neighborhood of Portland was originally the town of Lent, platted
in 1892. It was bounded by SE Foster Rd. and Duke Street between SE 92nd
and 97th Avenues.
ONE OF THE ALL-TIME GREAT FADS!
Phone booth stuffing was a fad that began during the 1950s in Durban, South
Africa and soon spread to Britain, Canada and the United States by the spring
of 1959. It involved seeing how many people could stuff a phone booth until it
would accommodate no more. At some colleges as many as 25 students had
managed to cram some of their body into a standard phone booth. Earlier
fads included goldfish swallowing and flagpole sitting.
