GUADALUPE, Calif. (AP) — Archaeologists working in sand dunes on the central California coast have dug up an intact plaster sphinx (above) that was part of an Egyptian movie set built more than 90 years ago for Cecil B. DeMille’s silent film epic "The Ten Commandments” (1923).
The 300-pound sphinx is the second recovered from the Guadalupe-Nipomo Dunes.

Actor Rance Howard, the father of director Ron Howard, died Saturday. The elder Howard was also the father of actor Clint Howard and grandfather of actresses Bryce Dallas Howard and Paige Howard.
Rance Howard’s acting career spanned several decades since the 1950s. He appeared in several of Ron Howard’s films, including "Apollo 13," "A Beautiful Mind," "Splash," "How the Grinch Stole Christmas," "Parenthood" and "Grand Theft Auto." (AP)
