(FoxNews) – It was learned today, Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright and actor Sam Shepard, died at his Kentucky home Thursday, July 27th.
A family spokesperson said the Oscar-nominated actor and celebrated author whose plays chronicled the explosive fault lines of family and masculinity in the American West, died from complications related to Lou Gehrig’s disease, or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.

The Black Tom explosion on July 30, 1916, in Jersey City, New Jersey, was an act of sabotage by German agents to destroy American-made munitions that were to be supplied to the Allies in World War I. This incident, which happened prior to American entry into the war, is also notable for causing damage to the Statue of Liberty.

The USS Indianapolis was torpedoed by a Japanese submarine on this day in 1945. The ship had just delivered key components of the Hiroshima atomic bomb to the Pacific island of Tinian. Only 316 out of 1,196 men aboard survived the attack.

Bodybuilder, actor, and politician Arnold Schwarzenegger served as the governor of California from 2003 to 2011. His best known films include Conan the Barbarian (1982) Predator (1987), TheTerminator series (beginning in 1984), and Total Recall (1990). He decided to pursue a career as a bodybuilder at age fourteen, despite demonstrating ability in football. He became the youngest person to win the Mr. Universe contest when he was 20.
John Matthew Heard Jr.(March 7, 1945 – July 22, 2017)
Heard, who played Peter McCallister in Home Alone and Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, has died. According to the Santa Clara Medical Examiner’s office he was found dead today in a Palo Alto, California hotel where he was reportedly recovering after undergoing recent back surgery.
In 1999, Heard won an Emmy Award for his guest starring appearance as Detective Vin Makazian in The Sopranos.

Canadian born Donald Sutherland played Hawkeye Pierce in the 1970 movie, M*A*S*H. His other films include The Dirty Dozen (1967), Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978) and JFK (1991). He graduated from Victoria College with the intention of becoming an engineer.
