ACTRESS BORN ON THIS DAY IN 1908


Joan Crawford
 (born Lucille Fay LeSueur in San Antonio, Texas)
(March 23, 1904 – May 10, 1977)

Joan Crawford won an Academy Award for her role in Mildred Pierce
(1945). She starred in many rags-to-riches movies as a flapper during
the Great Depression. She was originally discovered while dancing in
Detroit. In addition to being a flapper in the late ’20s, she was on the
board of directors for Pepsi-Cola.

The 25th Academy Awards ceremony took place at the RKO Pantages Theatre
in Hollywood, California, and the NBC International Theatre in New York City.

It was the first Academy Awards ceremony to be televised, and the first ceremony
to be held in Hollywood and New York City simultaneously. It was also the only
year that the New York ceremonies were to be held in the NBC International
Theatre
on Columbus Circle, which was shortly thereafter demolished and
replaced by the New York Coliseum convention center

ACTOR JOE SANTOS HAS DIED AT 84


Joe Santos (born Joseph Minieri in Brooklyn, New York)
(June 9, 1931 – March 18, 2016)

(AP) – Joe Santos, who played Lieutenant Dennis Becker on "The Rockford
Files," has died. 

Santos died Friday in Santa Monica, California, after a heart attack earlier
in the week, according to his agent Alicia Beekman.

Santos’ career spanned more than four decades, from a guest shot on
"Naked City" in the early 1960s through a recurring role on "The
Sopranos."
