Slobodan Milošević (August 20, 1941 – March 11, 2006) 

The United Nations war crimes tribunal in The Hague issued a sweeping
new indictment on this day in 2001 of the former Yugoslav president,
Slobodan Milosevic, charging him with genocide in connection with the
war in Bosnia in 1992-95.

In its third and gravest indictment, the tribunal charged that Milosevic
”participated in a joint criminal enterprise, the purpose of which was
the forcible and permanent removal of the majority of non-Serbs from
large areas of the Republic of Bosnia-Herzegovina.”

The first edition of "Life" was published and hit the newsstands on
this day in 1936. It featured a cover photo of the Fort Peck Dam by
Margaret Burke-White. The 466,000 print run immediately sold out.
  
Photographs published by Life magazine became some of the most recognizable images of U.S. and world events in the 20th century.

On this day in 1973, President Richard M. Nixon‘s attorney, J. Fred
Buzhardt, announced the presence of an 18½-minute gap in one of
the White House tape recordings related to the Watergate case.

On this day in 1934, the Cole Porter musical "Anything
Goes" opened on Broadway at the Alvin Theatre (now
known as the Neil Simon Theatre). The musical has
been revived several times in the U.S. and Britain and
has been filmed twice. It has long been a popular
choice for school and community productions.

President Abraham Lincoln delivered his Gettysburg Address as he dedicated a national cemetery at the site of the Civil War battlefield
in Pennsylvania on this day in 1863.

On this day in 1959, Ford Motor Co. announced it was ending the production of the unpopular Edsel. Ford began selling the ill-
fated line of cars in 1957.

Alicia Christian "Jodie" Foster is 56 years young today.

Foster first gained fame for her role as a teenage prostitute in the 1976
Martin  Scorsese film Taxi Driver. She won Academy Awards for Best
Actress for her performances in The Accused (1988) and Silence of the
Lambs (1991) and also had starring roles in Contact (1985), Anna and
the King (1999), and Panic Room (2002).

On this day in 1966, Dr. Samuel H. Sheppard was acquitted in his
second trial of charges he had murdered his pregnant wife, Marilyn,
in 1954.
