On this day in 1989, Randall Dale Adams was released from a
Texas prison after his conviction was overturned. The 1988 
documentary film "The Thin Blue Line" challenged evidence
of Adams’ conviction for killing a police officer.

first man to spacewalk when he left the Voskhod II space capsule
while in orbit around the Earth. He was outside the spacecraft for
about 20 minutes.

Antoine "Fats" Domino, Jr. (February 26, 1928 – October 24, 2017)

Fats Domino, the amiable rock ‘n’ roll pioneer whose steady, pounding piano
and easy baritone helped change popular music while honoring the traditions
of the Crescent City, died Tuesday, the 24th.

Mark Bone, chief investigator with the Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, coroner’s
office, said Domino died of natural causes at 3:30 a.m. Tuesday.

John Birks "Dizzy" Gillespie (October 21, 1917 – January 6, 1993)

Considered one of the greatest jazz trumpeters in history, Dizzy Gillespie 
was instrumental in the evolution of bebop and modern jazz. His first pro
gig was in 1935 with the Frank Fairfax Orchestra, followed by stints with
the orchestras of Edgar Hayes, Teddy Hill, and Cab Calloway.

Orvon Grover "Gene" Autry
(September 29, 1907 – October 2, 1998)


Actor and singer Gene Autry is known as The Singing Cowboy for his
appearances in ninety-three movies and ninety-one TV productions. The
roles as honest American heros earned him a reputation as one of country
music’s most prominent figures. Before fame he did work on his father’s
ranch and worked as a railroad telegrapher. He also performed as a singer
and a guitarist at local dances. Gene Autry owned the Anaheim Angels
baseball team for over thirty years.
