In Oslo, Norway on this day in 1964, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
received the Nobel Peace Prize. He was the youngest person
to receive the award.

Women were granted the right to vote in the Wyoming Territory
on this day in 1869.

The first domestic passenger jet flight took place in the U.S. on this
day in 1958 when 111 passengers flew from New York to Miami on
a National Airlines Boeing 707.

Soul singer Otis Redding, at age 26, was killed on this day in 1967 
when his tour plane crashed into a Wisconsin lake. The members
of Redding’s tour band, the "Bar-Kays," were also killed.

Augusto José Ramón Pinochet Ugarte died on this day in 2006.

Pinochet was a Chilean general, politician and the dictator of Chile
between 1973 and 1990; he remained the Commander-in-Chief of the 
Chilean Army until 1998. He was also president of the Government
Junta of Chile between 1973 and 1981. He died of congestive heart
failure and pulmonary edema.

on this day in 1787. The series of 85 essays, written by Alexander Hamilton,
James Madison and John Jay, were published under the pen name "Publius."

On this day in 1978, Egyptian President Anwar Sadat (right) and Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin (left) were named winners of the Nobel Peace Prize
for their progress toward achieving a Middle East accord.

John Marwood Cleese 78 years old today.

Monty Python comic actor and writer John Cleese played a role in A Fish
Called Wanda (1988). His most timeless works include Monty Python and
the Holy Grail (1975), The Meaning of Life (1983), and Life of Brian (1979).

the sound barrier.

Charles Elwood "Chuck" Yeager turned 94 on February 13.

The Battle of Hastings occurred in England on this day in 1066. The Norman forces of William the Conqueror defeated King Harold II of England.

in Milwaukee, WI. on this day in 1912. His wound in the chest was
not serious and he continued with his planned speech. William
Schrenk was captured at the scene of the shooting.

It was on this day 2002, when former President Jimmy Carter won
the Nobel Peace Prize.  

The accusations were made by Anita Hill on this day in 1991.

Anita Hill turned 61 in July.

Clarence Thomas became 69 years old in June.

day in 1975. The Soviet scientist is known as the "father of
the hydrogen bomb."
