Arthur William Matthew “Art” Carney

(November 4, 1918 – November 9, 2003)

Carney was drafted into the U.S. Army as an infantryman
as a machine gun crewman during World War II
. During the
Battle of Normandy serving in the 28th Infantry Division, he
was wounded in the leg by shrapnel and walked with a limp
for the rest of his life.

USS Constitution is a wooden-hulled, three-masted heavy frigate of the United
States Navy, named by President George Washington after the Constitution of
the United States of America. The Constitution was one of six original frigates
authorized for construction by the Naval Act of 1794 and was the third to be
constructed.
