Peter Dennis Blandford "Pete" Townshend is 70 today

Townshend had plans to become a graphic artist before his music career took
off. His grandmother bought him his first guitar in 1956. He was inducted into
the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1990.

IT WAS ON THIS DAY IN 1960 ~

The Civil Rights Act of 1960 served to eliminate certain loopholes left by the Civil
Rights Act of 1957. It established federal inspection of local voter registration polls
and introduced penalties for anyone who obstructed someone’s attempt to register
to vote. It was also designed to deal with discriminatory laws and practices in the segregated South.
