Former President William Howard Taft (above) dedicated the
Lincoln Memorial on the Washington Mall on May 30, 1922.

the ceremony.

The neoclassical monument honors 16th U.S. president

a monument to Lincoln on the Capitol grounds in 1867
(two years after his

), but it took until 1911
for funding to be
approved; construction was then

THE IMMIGRATION ACT OF 1924 WAS SIGNED

100 years since the passage of the Immigration Act of 1924 - World Socialist Web Site
Calvin Coolidge (1872 – 1933)

On May 26, 1924, President Calvin Coolidge (above) signed
into law the Immigration Act of 1924, the most stringent
U.S.
immigration policy up to that time in the nation’s history.

The new law—also known as the Johnson-Reed Immigration
Act, reflected the desire of Americans to isolate themselves
from the world after fighting
World War I in Europe, which
exacerbated growing fears of the spread of communist ideas.

It also reflected the pervasiveness of racial discrimination in
American society at the time. Many Americans saw the huge
influx of largely unskilled, uneducated immigrants during the
early 1900s as causing unfair competition for jobs and land.

President Joe Biden addressed the Class of 2024 at the West Point commencement exercises on May 25 in West Point, New York. The ceremony took place at Michie Stadium and involved around 1,000 cadets who graduated and were commissioned into the Army as second lieutenants.

Biden repeated a story about how he was ‘appointed’ tot he U.S. Naval Academy and wanted to play football —but his path was blocked by future NFL great Roger Staubach.

FACT CHECK: Biden attended the University of Delaware and as an exceptional student who graduated in 1965, reportedly playing football briefly on the 1961 freshman team but did not finish the season.
