FORMER PRESIDENT DIED ON THIS DAY IN 1885

Ulysses S. Grant (April 27, 1822 – July 23, 1885)

On July 23, 1885, just after completing his memoirs, Civil War hero
and former president Ulysses S. Grant dies of throat cancer. He
served as the 18th president of the United States from 1869 to 1877.

Roy Rogers (born Leonard Franklin Slye)
(November 5, 1911 – July 6, 1998)


Rogers was a co-founder of the
Sons of the
Pioneers
who went on to became one of the
most popular Western stars of his era. Known
as the "King of the Cowboys", he appeared in
over 100 films and numerous radio and television
episodes of The Roy Rogers Show.

THIS IS GUNSMOKE’S “DOC” (DR. ADAMS)


Stone retired when "Gunsmoke" went off the air in 1975, and died
five years later in San Diego. He was 75 years old.


For his contribution to the television industry, Milburn Stone has
a star on the
Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1981. He was inducted
inducted posthumously into the
Western Performers Hall of Fame
at the
National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma
City
. After his death, he left a legacy  for the performing arts in
Cecil County in northeastern Maryland, by way of the Milburn
Stone Theatre in
North East
, Maryland.

Guglielmo Giovanni Maria Marconi
(25 April 1874 – 20 July 1937)

Marconi was an Italian inventor and electrical engineer, known
for his creation of a practical
radio wavebased wireless telegraph system.This led to Marconi being credited as the inventor of radio,
and he shared the 1909
Nobel Prize in Physics with Karl Ferdinand
Braun
"in recognition of their contributions to the development of wireless telegraphy".
