JUDY COLLINS IS 77 TODAY


Judith Marjorie Collins was born in Seattle, Washington.

Folk singer of "Both Sides Now”, Judy Collins, has won Grammy Awards,
as well as being awarded a Honorary Doctor of Fine Arts Degree from
Pratt Institute. At age thirteen, she performed Mozart’s Concerto for Two
Pianos. She was inspired to pursue a career in music after hearing the
music of Bob Seger and Woodie Guthrie.

SINGLE RELEASED ON THIS DAY IN 1972

The song "Take It Easy" is a song written by Jackson Browne and Glenn Frey,
and recorded by the Eagles with Frey singing lead vocals. It was the band’s
first single. It peaked at No. 12 on the July 22, 1972 Billboard Hot 100 chart. It
also was the opening track on the band’s debut album Eagles and it has
become one of their signature songs, included on all of their live and
compilation albums. It is listed as one of The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s
500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll

Cloris Leachman was born in
Des Moines, Iowa.

Actress who won over seven Emmy Awards and played the role of
neighbor Phyllis Lindstrom on The Mary Tyler Moore Show on CBS
from 1970 to 1977. She represented Illinois in the Miss America
competition and began her acting career shortly after.

WILLIE NELSON IS 83 TODAY

 


Willie Hugh Nelson was born in Abbott, Texas.

After graduating from high school, in 1950, Willie Nelson joined the 
Air Force but was later discharged due to back problems. After his 
return, he attended Baylor University for two years but dropped out 
because he was succeeding in music. During this time, he worked
as a disc jockey at Texas radio stations while singing in Honky-tonks
And
moved to Vancouver, Washington, where he worked at country
radio station KVAN and wrote "Family Bible" and recorded the song
"Lumberjack" in 1956.
