Charles Elmer "Rip" Taylor Jr. (January 13, 1935 – October 6, 2019)


(FoxNews) – Rip Taylor, the zany
comedian who was a television and
nightclub mainstay for over six decades, has died.

Publicist Harlan Boll said Taylor died Sunday in Beverly Hills. The
cause of death was unclear.

Taylor first worked as a congressional page before serving in the
Army during the Korean War. His showbiz ascent started with
spots on "The Ed Sullivan Show," where he was known as the
"crying comedian."

On this day in 1962, Johnny Carson began hosting the “Tonight”
show on NBC television. He was introduced by Groucho Marx
(left) who warmed up the audience with a 15-minute monologue.

Jack Paar was the previous host of the show. Carson stayed with
the late night talk show for nearly 30 years.

Cokie Roberts (Mary Martha Corinne Morrison Claiborne Roberts) (December 27, 1943 – September 17, 2019)

NEW YORK (AP) — Cokie Roberts, the daughter of politicians who grew up
to cover the family business in Washington for ABC News and NPR over
several decades, died Tuesday in Washington of complications from
breast cancer.

On September 4, 1951, President Harry S. Truman’s opening speech before a conference in San Francisco was broadcast across the nation, marking the
first time a TV program was broadcast from coast to coast. The speech
focused on Truman’s acceptance of a treaty that officially ended America’s
post-
World War II occupation of Japan.

According to the CBS television network, the broadcast, via then-state-of-the-
art microwave technology, was picked up by 87 stations in 47 cities.
