RARE DOCUMENT COPY TO BE AUCTIONED

NEW YORK (AP) — A very special birth certificate will be auctioned
off later this year — a rare copy of the U.S. Constitution.

Sotheby’s announced Friday — appropriately on Constitution Day —
that in November it will put up for auction one of just 11 surviving
copies of the Constitution from the official first printing produced
for the delegates to the Constitutional Convention and for the
Continental Congress. It’s the only copy that remains in private
hands and has an estimate of $15-$20 million.

THE MAYFLOWER DEPARTED ON THIS DAY IN 1620

Find out about when the Mayflower set sail 400 years ago | Daily Echo

The Mayflower sailed from Plymouth, England, bound for the
Americas with 102 passengers. The ship was headed for
Virginia,
where the colonists, half religious dissenters and half entrepreneurs. had
had been authorized to settle by the British crown. However, stormy
weather and navigational errors forced the Mayflower off course,
and on November 21 the “Pilgrims”
reached Massachusetts, where
they founded the
first permanent European settlement in New
England in late December.

HER SKIRT WAS BLOWN UP ON THIS DAY IN 1954

The famous picture of Marilyn Monroe, laughing as her skirt is
blown up by the blast from a subway vent, was shot during the
filming of The Seven Year Itch. The scene infuriated her husband,
Joe DiMaggio, who felt it was exhibitionist, and the couple
divorced shortly afterward.

According to Marilyn Monroe: The Private life of a Public
Icon
, the Hollywood bombshell loved filming the scene.
