producer, businessman, retired bodybuilder, and former
politician who served as the 38th governor of California
from 2003 to 2011. Arnold is 74 today.

AGENCY CREATED ON THIS DAY IN 1958
The U.S. Congress passed legislation establishing the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), a civilian agency
responsible for coordinating America’s activities in space, on July 29,
1958. NASA has since sponsored space expeditions, both human and
mechanical, that have yielded vital information about the solar system
and universe. It has also launched numerous earth-orbiting satellites
that have been instrumental in everything from weather forecasting to
navigation to global communications.

Dusty Hill, the bassist for the iconic rock band ZZ Top, has died just
days after he took a leave of absence because of a hip issue.

PORTLAND, Ore (KATU. — The Portland Trail Blazers
are mourning the loss of one of their original players.
Stan McKenzie was selected by Portland in the 1970
expansion draft and spent two years with the franchise.
He’s the only player to appear in all 164 games for the
Blazers during the team’s first two seasons. He holds
a more-than-50-year record for the most free throws
attempted in one quarter.
He died July 21 after a brief illness, .
