Betty Grable, actress, dancer and singer was the number-one
pin-up girl of during World War ll. Her leg’s were insured for
one million dollars by her studio with Lloyds of London.

THE BATTLE OF THE BULGE ON THIS DAY IN 1944

The Battle of the Bulge began as the German army
launched a surprise counterattack against Allied
forces near the end of World War ll. It took place
in the heavily forested Ardennes mountains in
Belgium.

The United Nations Children’s Fund was organized to provide emergency food and
healthcare to children in countries that had been left devastated by World War ll. It
became part of the United Nations in 1953.

FLYING ACE BORN ON THIS DATE IN 1912

World War ll U.S. Marine Corps pilot Gregory “Pappy”
Boyington was born in Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho and
moved with his family to Tacoma, Washington. His
initial flying was with the Flying  Tigers and was 
later commander of the famous Black Sheep
Squadron. He died on January 11, 1988. He
was 75.
