NASCAR’S JIMMIE JOHNSON IS 36 TODAY

Jimmie Kenneth Johnson is a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race car driver for
Hendrick Motorsports. He d rives the No. 48 Lowe’s Chevrolet. Johnson began
racing motorcycles at the age of five. He started stock car racing in 1998. He
then moved to the national American Speed Association (ASA) series for late
model touring cars, and won a rookie of the year title.

In 2000, Johnson switched to the NASCAR Busch Series, now Nationwide
Series. He joined Hendrick Motorsports in the Sprint Cup Series in 2002. He
won his first Cup series championship in 2006 and with further wins from 2007
through 2010 became the only driver in NASCAR history to win five consecutive championships.

Johnson has recorded 54 wins, 214 top-tens, and 25 pole positions between
2002 and 2011. He was the first race car driver to become Associated Press
Male Athlete of the Year in 2009, and has won Driver of the Year four times,
most recently in 2010.

M*A*S*H is a television series adapted from the 1970 feature film MASH, which was
itself based on the 1968 novel MASH: A Novel About Three Army Doctors, written by Richard Hooker. The medical drama/black comedy series premiered on September
17, 1972 and ended February 28, 1983. The final episode became the most watched television show in U.S. television history with 105.97 million viewers. In 2002, M*A*S*H was ranked #25 on TV Guide’s 50 Greatest TV Shows of All Time.

SITCOM DEBUTED ON THIS DAY IN 1972

The Bob Newhart Show
is a sitcom produced by MTM Enterprise and aired on CBS-
TV from September 16, 1972 to April 1, 1978 for a total 142 original episodes. Bob
Newhart plays psychologist and follows his adventures as he deals with both his
patients and fellow office workers. The show was filmed before a live audience.

TV SERIES PREMIERED ON THIS DAY IN 1963

outer limits

The Outer Limits
aired on ABC-TV from September 16, 1963 to January 16, 1965
for a total, 49 episodes. The series is similar to the anthology show Twilight Zone,
but with more emphasis on science fiction. The series was revived in 1995 on
Showtime from 1995 to 1999, then again on the Sci-Fi Channel from 1999 until cancellation in 2002.

MOVIE RELEASED ON THIS DATE IN 1953

The Robe won Academy Awards for Best Art Direction-Set Decoration, Color,
and Best Costume Design, Color. It was nominated for Best Actor in a Leading
Role (Richard Burton), Best Cinematography, Color, and Best Picture. The film
also won the Golden Globe Award for Best Picture. The Robe was the first movie
filmed in the widescreen CinemaScope process.
