Nancy Elizabeth Stafford is a actress, speaker and author, known for
her roles in television. She is best remembered for her part on the
NBC/ABC television series Matlock (1986-1995). She played Ben
Matlock’s law partner and friend, Michelle Thomas. Stafford also
hosted a syndicated TV series on fashion and beauty called Main
Floor (1996-2005).
“Only the Lonely” was written by Roy Orbison and Joe Melson. It
went to No. 2 on the Billboard pop music charts in late-July 1960
and to No. 14 on the Billboard R&B charts.
In 1999, "Only the Lonely" was honored with a Grammy Hall of
Fame Award. In 2004, Rolling Stone ranked it #232 on their list
of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.
One of the first shopping carts was introduced by Sylvan Goldman,
(below) owner of the Piggly Wiggly supermarket chain in Oklahoma
City. The cart was a simple metal folding frame that held two wire
baskets. Goldman called his carts “folding basket carriers”. A store
mechanic at Piggly Wiggly developed a method to mass produce
the carts by inventing an assembly line capable of forming and
welding the wire baskets.
