MUSIC ICON BORN ON THIS DAY IN 1932
Patsy Cline (Virginia Patterson Hensley)
(September 8, 1932 – March 5, 1963)
Cline was one of the most influential, successful and acclaimed female
vocalists of the 20th century. She died at age 30 at the height of her
career in a private plane crash that also took the lives of country stars
Cowboy Copas and Hawkshaw Hawkins.
COMIC STRIP DEBUTED ON THIS DAY IN 1930
The comic strip Blondie was created by cartoonist Chic Young and distributed by
King Features Syndicate. The success of the strip led to a long-running Blondie
film series (1938–1950) and the popular Blondie radio program (1939–1950).
Chic Young drew Blondie until his death in 1973, when creative control passed
to his son Dean Young, who continues to write the strip. Young has collaborated
with a number of artists on Blondie, including Mike Gersher, and Stan Drake. The
strip has been translated in 35 languages and appears in more than 2,000 papers
in 47 countries.

Bess Myerson as Miss America in 1945
Bess Myerson become the first Jewish woman to win the Miss America
pageant shortly after World War II along with a first ever pageant award
of $5,000 scholarship.
Throughout the 1950s and 1960s, Myerson enjoyed a successful TV
career as a game show panelist, actress, and commercial pitchwoman
for many popular products.
