Elvis Presley went to the White House to volunteer his services to President Nixon
on fighting the nation’s drug problems. He gave Nixon a chrome-plated Colt .45
pistol and Nixon gave Elvis a Narcotics Bureau badge (shown below).

Winter solstice is the day with the fewest hours of sunlight during the
whole year. The word solstice comes from the Latin words for “sun”
and “to stand still.” Winter this year officially begins tonight at 11:48
P.M. EST. After this date, the days start getting “longer,” i.e., the
amount of daylight begins to increase.
